  1. I wonder how many of these Psalms were written as David was fleeing from Saul or his son Absalom or a situation with the Philistines? To have someone against you and pursuing you to harm and even kill you is incredibly hard. Anxiety and anger would continue to press against your mind as well as the concern you would have for the people David was responsible for. But in Psalms like these we see that often David turned to God. He cried out to Him to find comfort, protection and victory. It is what made David a man after God’s heart. It was not because he got it right all the time, but in everything he turned to God for His solution and His resolution. Here he cries out to God for mercy and asks God to act on behalf of His righteousness and His love for him. All good reasons to present to God for Him to act on our behalf. David also asks God to show him what to do. How important is that in light of what we would want to do to enemies coming against us. So He asks God to silence and destroy his enemies so that he can serve Him.

    It’s a pretty common pattern we see in the Psalms and a pattern all believers throughout history have been familiar with as well.

  2. Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.

    Sounds like a good way to start the day.

  3. 5 I remember the days of old;
    I meditate on all that you have done;
    I ponder the work of your hands.
    6 I stretch out my hands to you;
    my soul thirsts for you like a parched land.
    Selah
    7 Answer me quickly, O Lord!
    My spirit fails!
    Hide not your face from me,
    lest I be like those who go down to the pit.
    8 Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love,
    for in you I trust.
    Make me know the way I should go,
    for to you I lift up my soul.
