Reading along with us in Jeremiah? Here’s today’s reading:

Jeremiah 9 (NIV)

1 Oh, that my head were a spring of water
and my eyes a fountain of tears!
I would weep day and night
for the slain of my people.
2 Oh, that I had in the desert
a lodging place for travelers,
so that I might leave my people
and go away from them;
for they are all adulterers,
a crowd of unfaithful people.
3“They make ready their tongue
like a bow, to shoot lies;...........Continue Reading

  1. After Pastor’s message from Joshua regarding circumcision’s and sanctification the end of this chapter really was a statement of the importance of this process to God. He wants clean hearts and minds not just ceremonial acts but true repentance and a new life, new actions, and one that brings glory to Him.
    I was also moved by verse 8 and just how careless we can be with what we say and forget the importance of our words.
    8 Their tongue is a deadly arrow;
    it speaks deceitfully.
    With their mouths they all speak cordially to their neighbors,
    but in their hearts they set traps for them.
    What we say makes a huge impact on people both good and bad and can be very telling about our hearts. We must learn to speak with God’s wisdom, patience, and love.

  2. I was struck by the expressions of sadness from God over the destruction He is bringing against His people. How important to recognize that God would rather not have to go there with them or us. And yet He will in order to bring us to repentance, to do the very things He has warned He would and thus be faithful to His word, and to protect His glory. It is also telling how often it is mentioned how deceitful they are and hypocritical to each other. And what a blasting accusation that they go from one sin to another and do not acknowledge God. It is a fitting description for our world as well. And when the nations see what has happened to Israel, they will know that it is because God’s people defied Him. How God wanted theirs and our testimonies to be different.

    Now it is unfortunate that once the judgement comes the people will wail…in fact God tells them to get ready for it and even get better at it because it will be warranted. And you’ve just got to love Jeremiah 9:23-24. May that be what marks our lives and becomes the tenor and tone of what we orient ourselves to.

  3. I listened to a series of short clips of all the elite scientists speaking about making humans eternal by interlinking them with computers, and speaking about the human body as a computer. It is called “transhumanism”. They have logged the DNA sequence for every living thing. Their ultimate goal is eternal life. Very creepy. They think they are God.

    I see God looking down at them (and us) and laughing. It reminds me of the joke about the scientist telling God we don’t need Him anymore and that we can create anything. God puts him to the test, forms a man and then says, “your turn”. So the scientist starts to form a man and God says, “Get your own dirt.”

    “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
    Let not the mighty man glory in his might,
    Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;
    But let him who glories glory in this,
    That he understands and knows Me,
    That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth.
    For in these I delight,” says the Lord.
