Reading along with us in Jeremiah? Here’s today’s reading:

Jeremiah 8 (NIV)

1“ ‘At that time, declares the Lord, the bones of the kings and officials of Judah, the bones of the priests and prophets, and the bones of the people of Jerusalem will be removed from their graves. 2 They will be exposed to the sun and the moon and all the stars of the heavens, which they have loved and served and which they have followed and consulted and worshiped. They will not be gathered up or buried, but will be like dung lying on the ground. 3 Wherever I banish them, all the survivors of this evil nation will prefer death to life, declares the Lord Almighty.’............Continue Reading

  1. Such a sadness in the start of this chapter in the people’s refusal to return to God. Their constant backsliding and disobedience is leading to their inevitable destruction and still they do not repent. I always think how hard it is to see my children make mistakes….preventable mistakes….and yet they insist on learning the hardest way! God watching these people and even us today must be so frustrating and yet He continues to love, to forgive, and to show mercy now matter how undeserved.

  2. This passage reminds me how God is serious about idolatry, pursuing one’s course, not listening to his Word, practicing deceit.. God hates to be ignored and we suffer the consequence if we pursue these paths.

  3. God continues to communicate through Jeremiah His displeasure with the Jews of Judah. It is important to remember that different prophesies may have been spoken in different areas and at different times thus explaining some of their similarities. The saddest thing is the people seem completely clueless about their spiritual state and think they are doing ok because they have the law and are God’s people. But their hearts are deceived and darkened and their consciouses hardened so they are not even ashamed of the wrong things they are doing and the false worship they are operating in. And that is the very reason why God has to bring the judgment, to wake them up and show them they are not within His favor. But before bringing it He tells them what He is going to do. And notice the things He says He will do are always consistent with the curses He declared to His people in the book of Deuteronomy. So God made it clear to them even back there. SO they, like us really have no excuse…and even with all these loses coming their way…lose of life, property, prosperity and freedom…they still don’t wake up and smell the coffee…..until it is upon them. May we not wait that long….
