Reading along with us in Jeremiah? Here’s today’s reading:

Jeremiah 10 (NIV)

God and Idols
1 Hear what the Lord says to you, people of Israel. 2 This is what the Lord says:
“Do not learn the ways of the nations
or be terrified by signs in the heavens,
though the nations are terrified by them.
3 For the practices of the peoples are worthless;
they cut a tree out of the forest,
and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel............Continue Reading

  1. just think of the reality in the picture given here that one would cut down a tree and sculpt it into an idol….a useless idol…that they must carry around and does not speak or hear. You have taken the creation given to you by the creator and tried to make it a god. Something we can all be guilty of at times, putting the created things in front of the Creator of those things. Just struck me today that we can so easily lose sight of the truly important things when we are looking with our own worldly eyes and not the eyes and mind of Christ.

  2. How true God’s statements through Jeremiah are here. How foolish to worship something that you or someone else has fashioned? What reason would you have to fear something you have to carry around or give word to? God has revealed Himself and acted in ways that cause us to believe, worship and obey. He is the One who has reached out to humankind and called us into relationship with Him. It was His idea and not ours. And He consistently has manifested Himself in ways that make His reality evident. How hollow to worship something that is not alive, it has no thought, personality, or purpose. How great it is to see the evidence of Him who has created everything and is above everything. And for rejecting Him and following these idols from other nations, the Jews are being captured, destroyed and exiled. May we learn from their negative example….not to do the same…

  3. This made me continue to think of these elitists who are seeking to basically program man. Interesting that computers are metal.

    “Everyone is dull-hearted, without knowledge;
    Every metalsmith is put to shame by an image;
    For his molded image is falsehood,
    And there is no breath in them.
    They are futile, a work of errors;
    In the time of their punishment they shall perish.

    But they are altogether dull-hearted and foolish;
    A wooden idol is a worthless doctrine.
    Silver is beaten into plates;
    It is brought from Tarshish,
    And gold from Uphaz,
    The work of the craftsman
    And of the hands of the metalsmith;
    Blue and purple are their clothing;
    They are all the work of skillful men.
    But the Lord is the true God;
    He is the living God and the everlasting King.
    At His wrath the earth will tremble,
    And the nations will not be able to endure His indignation.”
