Hosea 7 (NIV)

1 whenever I would heal Israel,
the sins of Ephraim are exposed
and the crimes of Samaria revealed.
They practice deceit,
thieves break into houses,
bandits rob in the streets;
2 but they do not realize
that I remember all their evil deeds.
Their sins engulf them;
they are always before me.

  1. Israel persists in evil and wrongdoing and are becoming increasingly flagrant about it. It is praised by those with power and influence while others suffer from the thievery, murder and adultery. They act like God doesn’t see ( or even care) but He does. He would much rather redeem them, but they force His hand of discipline upon them. Rather than turning to God when they are in trouble, they turn to the powerful nations around them, who unbeknownst to them, will use them and bring destruction. It is a sad state to read about and yet how descriptive of our country that used to be far more faithful to God and His ways, and yet we increasingly stray away and become increasingly brash about it. We are not God’s people as Americans, but those of God’s people in the church must maintain our salt and light and continue to be a godly witness to the increasing darkness in our world.

    1. I also could not help but see the parallels to our own country. Our own government, built on godly, Biblical principles, is completely disregarding its own tenets, and the people and culture are becoming less and less of that of a “Christian” nation.

  2. As foolish as it is to think God could not see their evil ways it was more foolish to realize the mess they had made and seek help in man not God!
    All too often we go to man for advice, counsel, and help forgetting to go to God first the only true help in times of trouble and let God lead us to the answers and to the right people to help.

  3. “Woe to them, for they have fled from Me!
    Destruction to them,
    Because they have transgressed against Me!
    Though I redeemed them,
    Yet they have spoken lies against Me.
    They did not cry out to Me with their heart
    When they wailed upon their beds.”
