Isaiah 19 (ESV)

An oracle concerning Egypt.

Behold, the Lord is riding on a swift cloud
    and comes to Egypt;
and the idols of Egypt will tremble at his presence,
    and the heart of the Egyptians will melt within them.
And I will stir up Egyptians against Egyptians,
    and they will fight, each against another
    and each against his neighbor,
    city against city, kingdom against kingdom;
and the spirit of the Egyptians within them will be emptied out,
    and I will confound their counsel;
and they will inquire of the idols and the sorcerers,
    and the mediums and the necromancers;
and I will give over the Egyptians
    into the hand of a hard master,
and a fierce king will rule over them,

  1. “It will be a sign and witness to the Lord Almighty in the land of Egypt. When they cry out to the Lord because of their oppressors, he will send them a savior and defender, and he will rescue them. The Lord will strike Egypt with a plague; he will strike them and heal them. They will turn to the Lord, and he will respond to their pleas and heal them.”
    Isaiah 19:20,22

    Praise be to the Lord our God who is merciful-

    Righteous Judge with a merciful heart towards men, who doesn’t treat us as our treacherous deeds deserve!

    Sovereign King with a servant’s heart, who who brings the arrogant down low and elevates the meek and humble!

    The mighty Lion with a lamb’s tender and soft touch, willingly turned over to death, to slaughter, on our behalf. Though we deserve to die for our blemishes, the spotless lamb was slain in our stead.

    Praise the Lord of Hosts, who rides victorious over death and is seated at the right ha d of the Father in heaven watching over the affairs of His children!

  2. What an interesting long term plan God has for Egypt, another nation that is around Israel and has been significant in its history that here Isaiah reveals God’s plan for. God will bring them low. The Nile, the river that was the lifeblood of Egyptian culture that provided so much for their society and was the pride of there nation, is also in the hands of God. When He wants to dry it up, He will and it will be a reflection of judgment on them to humble them. And all aspects of Egyptian society will be affected. But God’s work with Egypt doesn’t end there. There is a time when the God of Israel will be honored there. They will see that the reason God sends oppression is so that they will turn to Him and honor Him and God will send them a Savior. He will make His works known to them and act in ways of mercy and grace, which God prefers. Where would any nation. people or individual be outside of God’s compassion and love and mercy? It is always available to us because that’s the kind of God our great God is.
