Hosea 5 (NIV)

Judgment Against Israel
1 “Hear this, you priests!
Pay attention, you Israelites!
Listen, royal house!
This judgment is against you:
You have been a snare at Mizpah,
a net spread out on Tabor.
2 The rebels are knee-deep in slaughter.
I will discipline all of them.
3 I know all about Ephraim;
Israel is not hidden from me.
Ephraim, you have now turned to prostitution;
Israel is corrupt............Continue Reading

  1. This chapter again is God speaking about pride and looking to themselves instead of God to the point where they weren’t responding to God at all. God always gives us reminders when we have stumbled. Way to remind us to get it together but they had fallen so far they weren’t listening to those corrections anymore.
    He also charged the leaders of the people that they were living corrupt lives. Their example was that of prideful, selfish. We need to take care when we are in leadership roles, in parenting, in work, in church, or just in life our lives should be reflecting God’s glory in ALL we do…we should look different.

  2. It is so important to recognize that the people of Israel and Judah should have known better, just like we should know better not to turn to sin to satisfy our lives, but turn to God. But they not only sinned but followed other gods and worshipped them, sometimes in addition to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And God knows and He sees. Their deeds have become so dark and created so much hardness that they don’t permit them to return to God. And so God will not be available to them and He will bring judgement upon them. It is just like He said He would and the right things to do to try to bring them back to Him. How prideful and selfish they and we are when we turn our backs on God and do our own thing in opposition to Him. And all God ever looks for is for us to admit our guilt and then turn ourselves to Him and earnestly seek Him.

  3. They seek solutions by human means.

    “They do not direct their deeds
    Toward turning to their God,
    For the spirit of harlotry is in their midst,
    And they do not know the Lord.
    5 The pride of Israel testifies to his face;
    Therefore Israel and Ephraim stumble in their iniquity;
    Judah also stumbles with them.”

    “…Because he willingly walked by human precept.”

    “And sent to King Jareb;
    Yet he cannot cure you,
    Nor heal you of your wound.”

    Once they realize there are no solutions without God, He will answer.

    “I will take them away, and no one shall rescue.
    15 I will return again to My place
    Till they acknowledge their offense.
    Then they will seek My face;
    In their affliction they will earnestly seek Me.”
