Hosea 4 (NIV)

The Charge Against Israel
1 Hear the word of the Lord, you Israelites,
because the Lord has a charge to bring
against you who live in the land:
“There is no faithfulness, no love,
no acknowledgment of God in the land.
2 There is only cursing, lying and murder,
stealing and adultery;
they break all bounds,
and bloodshed follows bloodshed.
3 Because of this the land dries up,
and all who live in it waste away;
the beasts of the field, the birds in the sky
and the fish in the sea are swept away............Continue Reading

  1. I find that Hosea having married an adulterous wife to prove a point, well… I don’t know what to say to that

  2. God reviews Israel’s behavior and judgment like a court reading listing the charges and the ultimate judgment for the offenses. While He keeps the comparison of their idolatry to prostitution and adultery, He also several times reminds them of their rejection of the knowledge of God. I feel like this is important because this is what the world does even now. When we use our self as the guide anything goes, the “if it feels good” idea, but when we are in His word and acknowledging His truths in our lives our sin feels bad and we know we shouldn’t. The further away from the truth and knowledge of God Israel got the easier it was for them to fall deeper into sin.

  3. How dark things become when people reject God. How evil prospers when people seek their own ways and forsake God’s. It is even worse when those who are tasked to lead and teach are falling into unfaithfulness as well. The people are destroyed for lack of knowledge and more specifically rejecting the knowledge of God. The evil and sin in Israel is as bad as in pagan nations and they have no conscience to stop and change their ways. I love the line “they exchanged their Glory for something disgraceful.” God had so much for them and for us, and we sacrifice those things when we disobey. They had been warned and instructed, so what is God to do with this but turn His back and discipline them. So Israel is too far gone, but Judah is warned to not go down her path. They are warned not to turn to them and leave them alone. We too need to watch the influences in our lives as we seek to live for God. Bad company does corrupt good morals. We are to be influencers in Christ rather than the ones influenced….but sometimes recognize that some are too far gone.

  4. God brings His charges against Israel.
    Swearing, lying, killing, stealing, bloodshed, rejecting God, forgetting the Law of God, hearts set on iniquity, harlotry, drunkenness, consulting idols, offering sacrifices and incense to false gods, adultery, making false oaths, rebellion and dishonor.
    I think I listed them all. 😛
