Purim was established to celebrate this great victory for the Jewish people. It is important to not just recognize but remember times where God provided, protected, and pursued us. Times when He gave us victories and even just met us where we were in a dark time. It is important to share these things with our children and teach them not to miss God’s hand in and on their lives even generationally. Sometimes we become comfortable and even expectant of God and we should never take for granted all He has done and continues to do in our lives.

I remember my days at Brandeis University when Jewish students would build booths in celebration of Purim sometime during the fall. So, it was good to see that Mordecai and Esther’s wishes are being fulfilled to this day! And what a fitting thing to remember, how God worked on behalf of the Jews to protect them amidst those who would destroy them. And how He worked to move hearts to fear them and work on their behalf. It just goes to show what can happen when God is on the move….may we be living in such a way that we are not preventing that from happening.
