Deuteronomy 34 (NIV)

The Death of Moses
1 Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, across from Jericho. There the Lord showed him the whole land—from Gilead to Dan, 2 all of Naphtali, the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Mediterranean Sea, 3 the Negev and the whole region from the Valley of Jericho, the City of Palms, as far as Zoar.……Continue Reading

  1. 10 Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, 11who did all those signs and wonders the Lord sent him to do in Egypt—to Pharaoh and to all his officials and to his whole land. 12For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.

Overwhelmed to think about what a special relationship Moses had with God. More than the amazing things he did, the fact that he had a truly personal, intimate, face-to-face relationship with the Almighty is something we should all inspire to have! The fact is we can have that but we need to come to God in complete surrender and let God take control of our life as we follow like Moses did.

  2. Buried by God, fitting for such a man who saw him face to face. As Kelly notes, no such prophet, before or thereafter, saving our Christ, Matthew 17, Hebrews 3:3. Though Moses saw the promised land, he never entered. Yet Moses finds the honor to speak with Christ, face to face centuries later.

  3. Deuteronomy 34
No one would ever be as close to God as Moses. They morned for 30 days but still no one knows where he was buried. I wonder if God did this so no one would ever try to dig up or destroy. Wisdom was passed on to his son.

  4. So Moses’ life ends but before it does, God shows him the full extent of the promised land. It seems as if God gave special sight to Moses to be able to see all that He did from a mountain in Moab. And Moses dies because his work is through not because his health was failing. I am sure God made that possible for the role Moses played in Israel. Either that, or we need to find the supplements he was taking…as my dad would think…lol. And it was right for the people to mourn to this extent because a chapter is closing with Moses. No one would interact with God in the way that he did and be the instrument he was for so many miraculous things. How blessed we are to be connected to him as we follow in the heritage that he and others established of trusting and following the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

  5. Always thought the disobedience of Moses by hitting the rock instead of speaking to it his punishment was harsh. But a great reminder to us. To obey. God still called Moses his friend and Moses turns back to God with love and openness to do better. A stuttering shepherd to a national leader. Molding the Hebrews into a nation. He never forgot who he was therefore success never went to his head. Exactly who God loves to use. No one greater than Moses until the king of kings comes to earth

  6. My comments from this chapter are missing. It was very detailed. I guess it never went through which is very disappointing.

    1. Sorry for your loss.
Not sure if you are posting from a phone but I have realized that there are two buttons “done” and “post comment” it is very easy to type at length and think that pressing “done” sends the comment, but it doesn’t (ask me how I know!) Make sure you press post comment.

  7. ”But since then there has not arisen in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face,“
    ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭34‬:‭10

Moses’ life and leadership ends and God buries him in an undisclosed location.

The description of Moses in vs 10 reminds me of God’s rebuke to Miriam and Aaron when they ask “why Moses and not us?”
”Then He said, “Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, make Myself known to him in a vision; I speak to him in a dream. Not so with My servant Moses; He is faithful in all My house. I speak with him face to face, Even plainly, and not in dark sayings; And he sees the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid To speak against My servant Moses?”“
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭12‬:‭6‬-‭8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
