2 Chronicles 24 (NIV)
Joash Repairs the Temple
1 Joash was seven years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem forty years. His mother’s name was Zibiah; she was from Beersheba. 2 Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all the years of Jehoiada the priest.…..Continue Reading

Back: 2 Chronicles 23

Tough to see and understand how someone can be so faithful to God and follow His ways and then forsake Him just because the greatest influencer of that faith dies. It shows the consistency of faith that is independent of others that is so important in our relationship with God. Joash goes from putting things in place to build the temple of God and having success in that and then defy God and worship idols under the influence from others. An essential part of leadership is to guide people to what is right and not be influenced to do the wrong. And God does the only fitting thing, remove his favor from Judah and cause them harm. And Joash meets an ignoble end, defined by the wrong he did in the end.
Definitely perplexing as to the change in heart.
2 Chronicles 24
As a parent influence is something I think a lot about. Who’s voices are in the ear of my children, who’s presence in their life is impacting them. We are effected by what we are exposed to and my rule of thumb to them has always been “garbage in, garbage out” As adults we are no different, if we don’t have a firm foundation of faith that is our own we can be swayed by arguments contrary to what God wants for us and Joash is a perfect example of that.

2 Chronicles 23 & 24
2 Chronicles 24
How easy it is to be influenced by the people around you. Joash took his eyes off God and started doing what the people around him were doing by worshipping idols, and he was destroyed in the end for it.
