Jehoiada obviously a godly man and the husband of Jehoshabeath, the woman who hid the young boy Joash and protected him from his own grandmother Athaliah’s massacre, comes up with a great plan to restore the line and throne of David. This is also in accordance to God’s plan and was steps toward a restored and obedient kingdom and so the plann was successful and the evil Athaliah was put to death and the evil idols cleared out. A great victory for God again using ordinary, obedient people!

Jehoiada saved the line of David.
Often it takes a strong leader with a good plan to turn the table on evil and Jehoiada is that leader. He organizes the people needed to protect the king as well as those fit to enter the temple because that would be the safest place to protect the king. And things come together as they reestablish David’s line over the throne of Judah. They also are wise to call the people to obedience and adherence to the Lord and the law and rid the nation of the false leader and the false gods. It is so nice to see a plan come together to right the wrong done by evil people. May we always be open to the places we play in making things like this happen in our time.

2 Chronicles 23:17 NIV
[17] All the people went to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They smashed the altars and idols and killed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altars.
The word smashed stood out to me. A strong verb that implies radical obedience. We don’t keep our idols close, we are to smash them.
