2 Chronicles 23 (NIV)

1 In the seventh year Jehoiada showed his strength. He made a covenant with the commanders of units of a hundred: Azariah son of Jeroham, Ishmael son of Jehohanan, Azariah son of Obed, Maaseiah son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat son of Zikri. 2 They went throughout Judah and gathered the Levites and the heads of Israelite families from all the towns. 1. Jehoiada puts things back to the way it should be to the dismay and death of Athaliah! A good way to make an example out of her for anyone else that wished to continue and follow the wicked ways she desired. The restoration of order in the temple and of the Levites duties was so important as we know how important this was to God and tearing down the altars and idols as well. It reminds me that sometimes things get off track but we need to know when to clean house in our own lives and set our course straight again!

  2. Often times for righteousness to be restored amongst God’s people, it just takes a leader to guide the people to turn the table on evil. It really starts with the conviction that something is off. Jehoiada knew that David’s descendent was supposed to be on the thrown and that this upstart queen was leading Judah into further evil. Jehoiada had been protecting Joash from Athaliah for that reason and it was now time to make things right. The next thing that needs to happen is to inform people of why things are off and why they should be made better. Then a plan needs to put in place and people have to be coordinated to make the plan work. The main goals of this plan is for the rightful king to be protected, for him to be anointed as king and for the evil queen to be eliminated. And Jehoiada does it all: coordinates the people (Levites primarily, who he would have relationship with and who would most be bothered by the current state of affairs) and then executes the plan. And it all came together to the glory of God and the advancement of His ends! Don’t you just love it when a righteous plan comes together. It is always good to be on the lookout for those things we would lead in to make things right!
