2 Chronicles 24 (NIV)

Joash Repairs the Temple
1 Joash was seven years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem forty years. His mother’s name was Zibiah; she was from Beersheba. 2 Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all the years of Jehoiada the priest. 3 Jehoiada chose two wives for him, and he had sons and daughters.
4 Some time later Joash decided to restore the temple of the Lord..........Continue Reading

  1. So sad that as quickly as order is restored, the death of Jehoiada brings it all crashing down again. Disappointing to see King Joash forget the kindness of Jehoiada and let this happen after his death. He was only 7 when he became king and because he was surrounded by godly counsel he was able to be an effective and good king but how quickly he forgot all that and ended up paying the ultimate penalty for his disobedience.

  2. Jehoiada seems to be the only righteous one here. Once the spiritual leader is gone the reverence for the Lord goes as well for everyone else from the king down. Let’s see how Joash’s son does now.

  3. Romans chapter 6. Dead to sin. Alive in Christ In some ways I’m glad I lived 30 years without the spirit of God within me. I can easily compare two totally different lives. I’ve been a slave to sin. And I’ve been a slave to God. Which kind of strange to write. Love being a slave to God. That’s where total freedom is! Our human nature is still with us which is a struggle. The Holy Spirit is our answer to victorious. Didn’t have that in BC life. Had no power to combat sinful nature or Satan. Nor did peace and joy fill my heart.!!

  4. I don’t know what is sadder, to see a king evil from the start, or someone who starts off well and finishes so poorly. It just goes to show how important it is for us to have our own faith in God rather than depending on the fait and fidelity of another. It is also important to persevere in faith and not let the advice of others turn us from what is right. But certainly a shout out to Jehoiada for being faithful all his years and leading the people so well into the last years of his long life. It also amazes me when God brings the judgement so quickly people don’t wake up and say.ok I’ll follow you. Not that it should take that to convince us. God has given us good reason to trust Him and follow.

  5. So sad that Joash seemed to have a good heart and desire to serve the Lord and then lost his way after Jehoiada dies. I wonder if his heart was ever with God or if he was just kept on the path by Jehoiada. This is how I feel when I hear that someone who was influential in Christian circles falls away or was unfaithful in major ways, Josh Harris, Ravi Zacharias, and in the olden days, Gordon MacDonald. Gordon MacDonald, did formally repent before his church and stepped down for a long time. I have had this happen with people that I was very close to as well and we as a church have seen this.

I was just looking up “He who endures to the end will be saved” and found this on “Got Questions”. I think it’s a pretty good explanation.

    1. It is a pretty good explanation but doesn’t give the only solution either. I’ll explain more when I am not on vacation….
