Luke 16
Jesus shares a parable to describe how the world deals with each other shrewdly, and some of that we can learn from and other parts we should reject. We should deal with our earthly wealth wisely but it should all be done in reference to heavenly/spiritual things. If we can’t deal well with earthly wealth, then why would we be capable of handling spiritual responsibility. And when we are trusted with a little thing, we can be trusted with much. And if we haven’t dealt well with other’s property, how can we entrusted with our own. But in all of this, we cannot be so caught in money either so it becomes our master. And it is believed that the rich man and Lazarus is an actual account rather than a parable, because it is the only time a name is used. But it also jives with the reality that there was a temporary holding place for the righteous and unrighteousness. And Lazarus receives compensation for the hard life he lived. But Jesus will free those in Abraham’s bosom after His resurrection and the unrighteousness will remain in Hades until the Great White Throne judgement when they will be thrown in the lake of fire.
