What a cool thing that upon completion of the temple the presence and glory of God fills it through a cloud so thick they could not even continue their service. The temple was built for God’s glory and He indeed did immediately posses it!
2 chronicles 5:14 and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud , for The glory of the Lord filled the temple of God. How awesome that must have been.
The Israelites brought their best to worship God and honor the significance of the temple, a place where God’s presence would reside. And God puts an exclamation point on the event by showing Himself in glory. What a poignant way for Him to show that He was truly present with His people. How much greater is the Holy Spirit within us to reenforce His presence with us. God’s glory inside those who believe in Jesus.
The ark was correctly placed in the inner sanctuary and the Lord was pleased with what was done to build the temple. So a cloud of his glory filled the temple of God. And all the people praised him saying, “The Lord is good; his love endures forever!”

Interesting that Aaron’s staff and the jar of Manna are no longer in the Ark.

Here’s an interesting explanation/theory, in summary, either they were removed by those who had the ark in their possession previously, or they were never IN the ark, but rather placed “before” the ark not inside it.
“And the Lord said to Moses, “Bring Aaron’s rod back before the Testimony, to be kept as a sign against the rebels, that you may put their complaints away from Me, lest they die.””
Numbers 17:10 NKJV
“indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the Lord, saying: “For He is good, For His mercy endures forever,” that the house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.”

I have a swelling in my spirit when I read that the Israelites do what is pleasing to the Lord and His Glory manifests before them.
