Jehoahaz King of Judah
2 Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. 3The king of Egypt dethroned him in Jerusalem and imposed on Judah a levy of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold. 4 The king of Egypt made Eliakim, a brother of Jehoahaz, king over Judah and Jerusalem and changed Eliakim’s name to Jehoiakim. 1. What a sad end for Jerusalem. Another string of evil kings and people turning from God and therefore they reaped the effects of those choices. Death, heartache, and separation from God.
We are so blessed to have God’s mercy and even after all they had done God still had love for his people and works through the Persian king to restore His ways for His people.

  2. After such a strong example is set by Josiah, it is hard to believe that the next set of kings just forsook God and worshipped false idols. It is no surprise then that Gos does what He said He would, and that is allow their enemies to get the upper hand. (God also provided Jeremiah to warn them all along the way as well.) And they get it from the south and the the Northeast….Egypt and Babylon. Babylon will eventually control the region until the Persian empires grows. It is interesting to consider what would have happened if Judah remained obedient. It would have been interesting to see the miracles God orchestrated to make them victorious against such superior numbers. But God had done it before and He would have done it again. But instead they are ravaged and exiled. It is interesting though that in the midst of the judgement, God provides a glimmer of hope (it’s just like God to do tat as well). He assures them that a king will come…it even names him….and they will return to the promised land once again.
