2 Chronicles 35 (NIV)

Josiah Celebrates the Passover
1 Josiah celebrated the Passover to the Lord in Jerusalem, and the Passover lamb was slaughtered on the fourteenth day of the first month. 2 He appointed the priests to their duties and encouraged them in the service of the Lord’s temple. 3 He said to the Levites, who instructed all Israel and who had been consecrated to the Lord: “Put the sacred ark in the temple that Solomon son of David king of Israel built. It is not to be carried about on your shoulders. Now serve the Lord your God and his people Israel. 4 Prepare yourselves by families in your divisions, according to the instructions written by David king of Israel and by his son Solomon..........Continue Reading

  1. Josiah celebrates the Passover in accordance to God’s desire and plan. Josiah showed such respect and love for God in all he did in his reign, being sure to follow the laws God gave them. Unfortunate that he did not heed the warning of Necho and ended up killed in battle but even in his death the people knew by the way they mourned and celebrated his legacy that he was a strong, humble leader that followed God.

  2. A chapter that is full of happiness and sadness. What a sight this Passover must have been. Imagine the number of people that gathered that made the number of animals given necessary. What sacrifices Josiah and other leaders made to show their devotion to God and the people. And it was so like Josiah to make sure everything was done the way God wanted, directing all those involved to follow the dictates of David, Solomon and Moses. And what feast this must have been, gathering as the people of God should to remember all that God had done for them. And to do this all with their righteous leader directing and providing. It is notable that it mentions those of Israel joining, further revealing the godly influence of this great king. And it must have been something to be described as the greatest Passover that had happened since Samuel and the best that any king had done. Ah, but godly men still make mistakes. How sad that he doesn’t follow Neco’s advice. It was probably hard to believe this pagan king was doing God’s work or could call down God’s judgement. What an ignoble death for a noble king! It is a further reminder of having good discernment in the decisions we make and not to be rash in thinking God will protect us from the bad ones…..

  3. “There had been no Passover kept in Israel like that since the days of Samuel the prophet; and none of the kings of Israel had kept such a Passover as Josiah kept, with the priests and the Levites, all Judah and Israel who were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. “
