2 Chronicles 15 (NIV)

Asa’s Reform
1 The Spirit of God came on Azariah son of Oded. 2 He went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you. 3 For a long time Israel was without the true God, without a priest to teach and without the law. 4 But in their distress they turned to the Lord, the God of Israel, and sought him, and he was found by them. .........Continue Reading

  1. Asa cleans house so to speak right down to his own grandmother’s idols! He puts Judah back on course to pursue God and the things of God instead of idols and other distractions that had slipped into their lives. He showed them the importance of following God even to the point of death if need be. God rewarded this and kept them safe and out of war.

  2. Oded speaks to Asa and Asa “takes courage” and sets things right in the land.

“Then they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul; 13 and whoever would not seek the Lord God of Israel was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. 14 Then they took an oath before the Lord with a loud voice, with shouting and trumpets and rams’ horns. 15 And all Judah rejoiced at the oath, for they had sworn with all their heart and sought Him with all their soul; and He was found by them, and the Lord gave them rest all around.”

Even Asa’s own mother was removed as Queen Mother…..I wonder what that means.

“Nevertheless, the heart of Asa was loyal all of his days. “

  3. Asa does what every leader should, following God completely and calling those under his leadership to do the same. How great it must have been to have the people gather together and affirm their dedication to God! It’s what every Sunday should be for us. To dismiss his grandmother from her position as Queen mother is just further affirmation of Asa’s dedication to God over familial relations. And Amy, it seems this was a position in the court of the King that held some status and responsibility and yet Asa calls his family and all Judah to fidelity to God!

  4. The Lord is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you. Very clear. To kick his mom from being the queen mother because of an idol. Asa restored the Temple. Asa was perfect before God.
