The Collection for the Lord’s People
1 Now about the collection for the Lord’s people: Do what I told the Galatian churches to do. 2 On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made. 3 Then, when I arrive, I will give letters of introduction to the men you approve and send them with your gift to Jerusalem. 4 If it seems advisable for me to go also, they will accompany me...........Continue Reading

  1. Is there anything better than the word of God. Feeding your soul as all questions in life have been answered. What an awesome book. As the Christians of Corinth are struggling. Obvious some of them wrote to Paul with questions and the wisdom in the answers certainly proves that scripture is God breathed. This whole book is summed up in one verse. I appeal to you brothers in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that all of you agree with one another so that there will be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly United in mind and thought. Spends 4 chapters speaking of unity. Answers on topics of sexual immorality. Law suits. Marriage. Sensitivity to Weaker brothers and sisters. Don’t make them stumble because of non important issues. Having the correct mind set at The Lords supper. He destroys the argument of some spiritual gifts being more important than others The greatest gift is love! Paul ends with the absolute proof of the resurrection. Proving not only our souls are going to heaven. But we get a heavenly body. Can’t imagine being a Christian and Corinth and reading this letter. What a extremely powerful letter nails so many subjects that answer questions today. Love the word of God love this book. Reading it through again. Hard to leave it. But the next lesson will be as powerful. Awesome

  2. 1 Corinthians 16 as Paul directed the Corinthian people to stand firm in their belief, to have faith, do everything in kindness and love till he returns is the same thing we should be doing while waiting for Christ to return.

  3. 13 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. 14 Do everything in love.
What a great verse! What a powerful way to approach life. Know God’s word and stay on top of the false teachings you will come in contact with and be able to discern right from wrong. Stand strong in your belief knowing what is right even when it is not politically correct. Be courageous knowing we are on the right side and have the Creator of everything with us giving us His power and provision in every situation we face. Never forget that we are to operate in love and we are to love others like He loved us. We treat others well, fairly, and with forgiveness despite how this world may treat us….we should look and act differently!

  4. There are 3 principles for giving found in the first few verses of this chapter: consistency, intentionality and reflective of income. The work of God and the poor need support and Paul is not hesitant to ask people to participate. He also shares his plans to see the Corinthians and the regard they should show others that are serving God. The work of God has many different levels of service and we should all play our part in personal and physical support and participation. And how important the encouragement is to be on our guard, to stand firm in the faith and to be people of courage. The need for courage is found in so many aspects of life: how we defend the faith, how we confront difficult situations and people and how we address sin in our own lives. Not a bad reference for us to be people of faith, courage and love. And I just love the connectedness that Paul alludes to and encourages. We as believers are in this together.

  5. For they refreshed my spirit and yours. Such men deserve recognition. I believe people of faith are still put in our path to strengthen, renew and stir us up.

  6. Paul is wise and respectful with his dealings with the church. He wants the collections to be saved up in advance, so they are ready when he comes for them. He wants to spend some time with the believers when he visits, not wanting to just pass through for a short time. He asks that Timothy be treated with respect and to be protected while he is there so that he may leave in peace. He gives recognition to the people who built up the church in the correct way. He sends his greetings from those he is with at the time, and he writes it in his own hand. All these points show how much he cares about the Corinthian believers and how much he values the church. And towards the end of his letter, he gives us all something to think about and live by: Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love. We do this in the power of Christ, not our own power, and we have the body of believers to support and encourage us and we do the same for them.
