Deuteronomy 5 (NIV)

The Ten Commandments
1 Moses summoned all Israel and said:
Hear, Israel, the decrees and laws I declare in your hearing today. Learn them and be sure to follow them. 2 The Lord our God made a covenant with us at Horeb. 3It was not with our ancestors that the Lord made this covenant, but with us, with all of us who are alive here today.……Continue Reading

  1. God loves us enough to provide rules. Like every good parent, we provide rules to create safety and security and knowledge that we want what is best for our children. It provides direction and boundaries and gives a place of reference in times of confusion. The ten commandments are simple and yet complete and provide us our framework to live life in accordance to the will of our Father!

  2. Excellent comment Kelly. Man without God in their lives will so or latter bring about destruction in their lives and others. We can see from history and even around us in this evil world. Mankind because of sin in their hearts only wants to do what is wicked. Mankind`s heart is wicked and deceitful according to scripture. And yet if you were to ask someone if they are good, the answer would be for them to say they are good. But Jesus Christ says that no one is good except the Father. This why no one can earn their own salvation because of our sinful nature that we inherited from Adam. It really is foolish to think that anyone can earn their own salvation to even be in the presence of a HOLY GOD. No one deserves to be in Heaven for we are all sinners. Thank God that Jesus Christ the Son of God came down from Heaven and died in our place for all our past, present, and future sins. We only need to acknowledge our need for Him and turn to Jesus with complete trust in Him and with all that He did on the cross. God bless you all.

  3. Moses shares the 10 commandments with this new generation of Israelites and shares the experience and surroundings of how it came. God in all His glory, manifesting Himself in sight and sound, and having that be the context that this summation of the law was given. The people’s response was fitting and yet dismissive, not wanting to approach God because of what might happen to them. But they were fine sending Moses. How could they not say they would obey with the display that was given them. May we believe in God’s majesty even if we don’t see or experience it. And trust that His law should be what directs our lives and He is the only One competent and caring to tell us what is right and wrong. And may we obey because of our love for Him and others because in that is the true summation of all the law!

  4. Moses reviews the 10 commandments with this new generation but they still won’t approach! “Moses, you go and tell us what He says.”
Hear God’s heart: ”Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!“
    ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭5‬:‭29‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

  5. God gave us the 10 commandments because he is our good Father. He loves us, he teaches us, he guides us, he disciplines us and he provides a way for us to find our way back to him when we have gone astray.
