Romans 5 (NIV)

Peace and Hope
1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope..

  1. Peace with God. Forever. If that’s not the most awesome news. I need nothing else. We have been justified. Set free!! And as suffering comes as we walk with Christ, that’s an added bonus to make us more like him. Perfect timing of God when Jesus came to set us free from sin. Loved us while we were still rebellious and sinners. No love compares. Verse 12 to the end. Maybe Peter was taking of this when he said Paul sometimes uses words that are hard to understand. Pretty simple though for me. Lived 30 years on Adams side. Death. Lived rest of my life on Jesus side. Life!!! Eternal life through Jesus Christ my lord. Thank you lord was able to share that news with someone today!!

  2. Romans 5: verse 8 while we were still sinners, Christ died for us! We were reconciled through his blood, he died for the unGodly, because he loved us.

  3. 5:3 Or let us also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope.
We can have joy in suffering knowing God is doing a work in us. We have hope in eternity that melts away the hours, days, and even years of discomfort we may experience in this life.

One man’s transgression and disobedience led us into a path of sin but one man’s obedience provides us the grace and hope! The gift of our relationship with God is possible because of Jesus’ obedience to the Father!

  4. What a great chapter full of truth to encourage us and affirm gospel truth. What could be better than to have peace with God because of what Jesus has done and to be able to stand in His grace? Priceless! And then we see because of that we not only have hope in His glory but also can rejoice in our suffering because we know what good things are produced in us by Him through them. And this is all based in the love that God has for us that is poured out to us by the Holy Spirit. And just in case we wondered whether God truly loves us, God demonstrates His love for us in that while we were sinners, Christ died for us.

And the powerful work of Christ on the cross can apply to all of us as human beings, because God had a wonderful plan. And that plan was to have all of us condemned through Adam so that we could all become righteous because of Christ. It was the thing that made it just that we would be made righteous because of Jesus’ righteousness, because we all had sin credited to our account because of Adam’s sin. What divine wisdom is found in that plan! In fact the law was added so that we could recognize our sinfulness and thereby access the grace that would cleanse the sin. And don’t worry because that grace will always be enough, because where sin increased grace increases above and beyond it…..

  5. I see so much just in the first paragraph!

All that we have through faith in Jesus!
    – justification
    – peace with God
    – access to grace (firmly established – standing)
    – hope in the glory of God
    – glory in tribulations, knowing what it produces
    – hope…hope that doesn’t disappoint
    – love poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit

“And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope.”

This progression also reminded me of James 1.
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

Looks like trials and tribulations are the pathway to maturity in our faith!
