  1. God turned the Israelites doubt and fear about leaving Egypt into amazement with the parting of the sea so they could cross! Imagine how awesome it must have been to see this happen….of course it brought them to a place of fear and trust in the Lord!

  2. I guess God had not done enough to convince Pharaoh that His power is too great and there is no beating Him. God knew that with the Egyptian army in tact, there would always be a threat of them coming after the Jews and enslaving them again. Remember He has led them the way he has so as to avoid warfare with other nations at this time. It also allows the Israelites to be sitting ducks for Pharaoh to attack. He and his officials come to their senses if you will and say, how could we let those slaves go….now we have to do our own work. God works on Pharaoh’s heart once again and hardens it, but Pharaoh’s pride makes it easy. Have they forgotten that God provided 10 plagues to show His power and protected the Jews in the midst of most of them?

So Pharaoh’s chariot’s approach, and the Israelites do what they do best: they are afraid and they complain. Sounds a little like us at times doesn’t it? I guess they also had forgotten what God had done already to protect and provide for them. That sounds familiar too, doesn’t it? So God protects their rear and provides a way in front where there appears to be no way. But when you are dealing with the the God of the heavens..of course going through the sea becomes a viable option. And what hubris is found in sending the Egyptian Army in after them. Do you really want to try to best the God who protects the Israelites and has the power to hold back the sea? Even some of the Egyptians see the futility. And so once the Jews are through the sea, it comes crashing down on the Egyptian army. So now Pharaoh has lost his slaves and his army. Hopefully he will now think twice before he trie to go against the Jews.

May we trust God to take care of our enemies as well in the way that He sees fit.

  3. 29But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. 30That day the Lord saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore. 31And when the Israelites saw the mighty hand of the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.

  4. God walks before the Israelites and behind them.

“And the Angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud went from before them and stood behind them.” Pastor, is this the second Person of the trinity?
