Psalms 92-93 (NIV)
A psalm. A song. For the Sabbath day.
1 It is good to praise the Lord
and make music to your name, O Most High,
2 proclaiming your love in the morning
and your faithfulness at night,
3 to the music of the ten-stringed lyre
Give thanks to the Lord! Nothing quenches our own natural tendency to complain than a thankful heart. When you are focused on what you do have it is hard to worry about what you don’t. God knows all and sees all He provides what we need in the right time. Psalm 92 was such a nice reminder of that. His strength, His thoughts, His plan is always better so we focus on what He has done and trust the rest to Him!
David opens with how good it is to give thanks unto the Lord and to sing praises unto Him. He with purpose sets out to shew forth His loving kindness in the morning and His faithfulness every night. Great is thy faithfulness ,O God my father. There is no shadow of turning with thee ; Thou changest not Thy compassions, they fail not; As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be. Of course this is the first verse in the hymn Great is Thy Faithfulness. God wants us to praise Him in song with our voices and if we can with instruments. It doesn`t matter if a person can sing on key if they are doing their best with all their heart. That`s what God cares about. I knew a brother at Bible School that was always joyful and talking about the Lord [Benny Wong], but he sang loud and off key. He asked me what I thought for he knew he sang off key. His question was that when he sings that he sing quiet. I told him not to worry about that but he should sing as unto the Lord and he should be loud if he feels led. Months latter there was a Chinese conference at the school and guess who was leading the conference in music. It was him. I was so happy for him and I told him so latter on. A word of encouragement can go a long way. A side note in verse 10: the name unicorn is mentioned in the older versions of the Bible. But the newer versions replace it with a different word. It was a real creature but not the way it is used in today`s world. The correct use of the word would be a Rhinoceros. The scientific name for Rhinoceros is Unicornis [one horn] and Bicornis [two horns] [ From Answers in Genesis]. I like verse 12 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree ; he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. The cedars in Lebanon were very massive trees. Verse 14, They shall still bring forth fruit in old age. That`s encouraging. All this to show that God is upright ; he is the rock and there is no unrighteousness in Him. I also read Psalms 93.
Psalms 92-93
Psalms 92&93
Psalms 92-93 David is singing Praise to the Lord for what he has done and for his faithfulness as we should do from the time we get up in the morning till we go to bed at night he should be on our minds with praise or song or praying to him, putting him before all else.
In 93 David reminds us of how mighty
our Lord is, He is Robed in Majesty and strength and his days are endless!
It is good to praise the Lord and He is certainly worthy of it. And we need to say it more then He needs to hear it. How important it is for us to remember who He is and what He has done…and praise is such a good way to do it. Those who are opposed to God will come to nothing but God will always remain in an exalted place unchanged by those who oppose Him. He is robed in majesty and His throne is established and it will stay forever. And yet He also shares His power with us, so as we follow Him, we are better, stronger and continue to grow and improve. And that just leads us to praise Him even more.
Listening to music and singing is a wonderful way to praise God. When we listen to Christian songs throughout the day it gives us joy, peace and the assurance that the Lord is with us. When we look at the beauty of nature, we can see the glory of God and how great his works are. And when we reflect upon his Word, we can take comfort in the fact that the righteous will flourish, the wicked will perish and the Lord will be our Rock and our Redeemer.
Amen Shelly!
