Psalms 78 (NIV)

maskil of Asaph.
1 My people, hear my teaching;
listen to the words of my mouth.
2 I will open my mouth with a parable;
I will utter hidden things, things from of old—
3 things we have heard and known,
things our ancestors have told us.
4 We will not hide them from their descendants;
we will tell the next generation
the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord,
his power, and the wonders he has done..............Continue Reading

  1. This chapter was such a moving account of God’s provision, power, and MERCY! We are tempted to say “how could these people turn away from God after ALL He provided??” and yet how different are we today? This world rejects God and His word always choosing self gratification over any personal sacrifice that may need to come from following Him.
    The Bible and especially the old testament is there for us to see how obviously selfish people are at their core and the need we have for God and yet history continues to repeat itself!
    It both frustrates and motivates me to be better, do better, teach my children to be better…to follow God and realize that doesn’t mean always getting what we WANT but being assured He will ALWAYS provide what we actually NEED!

  2. Been reading 1 Corinthians. This chapter brings to mind 1 Corinthians ch. 10. A warning from history. Bodies left scattered in the wilderness. ! If you think your standing firm. Be careful you don’t fall!!

  3. Wow, what a moving history of God’s work among His people and their repeated unfaithfulness. It is interesting that he starts out with the emphasis of making God and His works known to their children. It is no wonder that Satan is working so hard to infiltrate and poison the minds of our children.

  4. Good reminder for us. Praise God that he has not given us what what we deserve. Jesus Christ is our savior and paid our penalty.

  5. An extended retelling of the history of Israel from Egypt to David. It’s a history of the faithfulness of God and the unfaithfulness of His people. At the beginning, the Psalmist encourages his listeners to pay attention and make sure they learn the lessons that Israel’s history teaches and make sure we pass down the glory of God to future generations. God revealed so much and provided so much, He gave the people every reason to trust Him. And yet they consistently defied him and di their own thing as well as worshipped false gods. He would discipline them and then they would return to Him..but then the cycle would begin again. It is unfortunate that we find ourselves as believers in the same cycle. We do best to learn from the poor example of the Jews and develop a pattern of faithfulness that the glory and goodness of God warrants and the blessing of God affirms.
