Psalms 62-63 (NIV)

For the director of music. For Jeduthun. A psalm of David.
1 Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him.
2 Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
3 How long will you assault me?
Would all of you throw me down—
this leaning wall, this tottering fence?
4 Surely they intend to topple me
from my lofty place;
they take delight in lies.
With their mouths they bless,
but in their hearts they curse.............Continue Reading

  1. Psalm 62 made me think of Isaiah 2:22, “Stop trusting in man who has but a breath in his nostrils, of what account is he.” Certainly Scriptures like this should not make us cynical, but help us realize when people let us down we can always turn to God and find Him a faithful refuge. He is the only source of true salvation and what people provide cannot compare. How comforting that we can find rest in Him and Him alone. And Psalm 63 is a fitting response to the needs that God fulfills in us particularly when people are unfaithful, we are to praise Him and seek Him. What a glorious thing that He can be found! And as we seek Him and praise Him, we end up satisfied. We have someone to turn to in every season of life, in good times and bad. He is great to turn to in the watches of the night, when our hearts may be troubled and we can find a place of solace with the One who both cares and is able to handle whatever we throw at Him.

  2. I’ve been reading the book by AW Tozer that Jesse recommended at the Women’s retreat. He talks about David thirsting, longing, seeking after God throughout the Psalms. I can’t say that I never noticed that, but it is a good question for us about our relationship with God. Do we have a relationship with Him where we continually seek after Him? Are we thirsty in our souls?

    O God, You are my God;
    Early will I seek You;
    My soul thirsts for You;
    My flesh longs for You
    In a dry and thirsty land
    Where there is no water.
    So I have looked for You in the sanctuary,
    To see Your power and Your glory.

  3. My soul finds rest in God alone. Your love is better than life my lips will glorify you. With singing lips my mouth will praise you. My soul clings to you. Your right hand upholds me. Yes when I am in a funk these are the very things I am not doing and thinking on.
