Psalms 51-53 (NIV)

For the director of music. A psalm of David. When the prophet Nathan came to him after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba.
1 Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your unfailing love;
according to your great compassion
blot out my transgressions.……Continue Reading

  1. This is such a good Psalm, but it is a shame that destructive sin put him to this. David not only had inappropriate relations with Bathsheba, but he had her husband {Uriah} killed on the line of battle as well. All this in order to cover up his sin of sleeping with her. It wasn`t hidden from God and God sent the Prophet Natan to rebuke him. As a result, the child died, and Natan told David that God would raise evil from David`s house. He did repent and fast, hoping that God would allow the baby to die. But God allowed it anyways. God did show mercy however perhaps more for Bathsheba than David, for He allowed them to have another child called Solomon which we know latter became king. But that was God`s mercy. However, God said that evil would arise from David`s house which it did. First with Ammon defiling his half sister{Tamar} who was the sister of Absalom. So, Absalom kills Ammon and flees away until he is allowed to return. Then latter he tries to take away the heart of the people from his own father{David}. These are only the start of things. This all started because David was idle and not in battle. Instead, he looked on Bathsheba and wanted her. Thank God we can come before Him in repentance as believers and He will forgive us, but there are often consequences for our sins. Even though he calls out to God that he only sinned, against God, he still sinned against others. But in his life, and in ours, we can still get right with God even after all our sins. He can and will give us a fresh start in our walk with Him when we come before Him with a broken and contrite heart. This is why it is so important to keep short accounts with people and get things right as soon as possible. Better to not sin but instead keep walking with Him. He knows that we need all the help that we need. Thank God for His everlasting love and mercy toward us. God bless you all.

  2. ”Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.”
    A Psalm of repentance. What does God want from us? Our hearts and minds, controlling our bodies. Not mindless words or meaningless rituals. Faith of the heart.
    “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart— These, O God, You will not despise.“
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭51‬:‭10‬-‭12‬, ‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

  3. ”But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever. I will praise You forever, Because You have done it; And in the presence of Your saints I will wait on Your name, for it is good.“
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭52‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

    “Because You have done it.” Reminded me of Easter. “It is finished.” And “He hath done this.” Psalm 22: ”A seed shall serve him; It shall be accounted to the LORD for a generation. They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness Unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.“
    ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭22‬:‭30‬-‭31‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  4. What a difference between people that are confessional before God and those who shake their fists at Him and have no regard for Him. God would love to find righteousness and understanding of Him on the earth, but often times He does not and that will lead to judgment and hardship coming to them from God. But to those who are broken before Him and recognize their sin, He cleanses them, forgives them and is willing to help them be right. It is a great prayer to ask God to create in us a pure heart and renew a steadfast spirit within us. We can be glad in the church age we are sealed with the Spirit and so therefore we will never lose Him, but we can lose His filling and choose to either be filled or to grieve and quench Him. And when we do repent and get it right, we desire to lead others in that way as well and our obedience will give us credibility to speak into other’s lives. We will also see God’s dealing with the wicked and will be glad we are not them and recognize the contrast of how He provides for us and yet judges them. We shouldn’t desire to see that, but recognize when it happens and how that validates the choice we make to follow God.

  5. Our God is a God of grace and mercy. He forgives us and restores us when we go to him with a repentent heart and a sincere desire for a renewed relationship with him. “My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.”
