Psalms 25-26 (NIV)

Of David.
1 In you, Lord my God,
I put my trust.
2 I trust in you;
do not let me be put to shame,
nor let my enemies triumph over me.
3 No one who hopes in you
will ever be put to shame,……Continue Reading

  1. David knew he was a sinner and had past sin and present sin; but he desired to have that close relationship with God. God even referred to David as having a heart for God. David would confess his sin to God and then would have that close relation that God would confide with him. vs14. God doesn`t see as man does as it states in 1 Samuel 16:7b {–for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.} God sees us also and desires to have a relationship with us. How do we come before our Awesome God and have that close relation with Him as David did? David tells us in this chapter. We are to come before God in all humbleness and confessing our sins to Him and asking Him to not remember our sins anymore. Then we fully put our trust in Him leaning on Him to guide and protect us even through the hard times. Once a person comes to salvation by fully trusting in Jesus and not upon ourselves; he will have a new life in Christ. But we are still sinners only now saved by Grace because of what Christ has done on the cross and the resurrection. We are now in Christ and won`t ever lose our salvation but our walk with Christ is hindered by our sin. Thank the Lord that our walk with Christ can be restored by confessing our sins to Him. 1 John 1:9 {If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.} But it should go farther than this for He should be Lord of our lives in everyway. Jesus Christ needs to be in full control of our lives and that is only accomplished by full surrender to His will and purpose in our lives. God knows what is best for us. God bless us as we desire to walk with Him on a daily basis.

  2. 8 Good and upright is the LORD;
Therefore He teaches sinners in the way.
9 The humble He guides in justice,
And the humble He teaches His way.
10 All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth,
To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.

  3. Themes in this Psalm:
    I focus on You, Lord.
    Please look on me, Lord.
    Guide my path, Lord.
I walk in your way, Lord.
    The Lord forgives sins.
    Forgive my sins, Lord.
    Wait on the Lord.

Another way to break down this Psalm (and other Psalms) is, God is:
    Merciful
    Loving kindness
    Good
    Upright
    Mercy
    Truth
    Forgiving
    Covenant keeper
    Keeper of my soul
    Deliverer

  4. Psalm 25-26

David’s psalms always remind me of 1 Cor 10:12.

Psalm 25 has a feeling of authentic, humble worship, asking God to forgive him of the sins of his youth and of his transgressions, knowing that God expects those who love Him to walk in uprightness. David asks God to lead him in His truth and teach him, and says that he will wait for God all day long. David acknowledges that it is those who fear the Lord and humble themselves before Him that God instructs…we know that God resists the proud, but to the humble He gives grace and mercy. In verse 12 and 13 David echos the words of James in 1:25, that the one who does what God instructs will be blessed in his doing…”his soul shall abide in well-being.”

But Psalm 26 has a different feel to it, at least to me. Here David begins to lose some of his humbleness, asking the Lord to vindicate him because “for I have walked in my integrity” and he has “trusted in the Lord without wavering”. The entire psalm proclaims that David walks in uprightness and does not mention sin or weakness at all. For me, this is where I start to be reminded of 1 Cor 10:12…”Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.” Or Galatians 6:3 which we looked at last week…”For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.”

I don’t know at what point in his life David wrote these two psalms…but we know that Psalm 51 is coming, and we know that “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” Thank God for His Word and His Spirit who guides us into all truth.

  5. Who better than God to trust with our lives. He is able to guide us in His will and empower us for it as well. We can trust Him to take care of us and overcome our enemies when it is appropriate and help us to persevere when our enemies are used to build our faith, character and ability to persevere. He is the wise God who can keep us from shame as we follow Him. He is good and upright and we have every reason to love Him, follow Him and be humble before Him. And we too should be upright and not allow the evil of the world to influence us. But in the end, He is to be the One to receive the glory and honor and whatever He provides for our faithfulness to Him is up to Him!
