  1. What hope exists for those who call on God and look to Him for His plan and provision! Even though He doesn’t promise us a life without pain and certainly will discipline us to keep us on the right path, He will also turn things around when we return to Him. The captives here most likely refers to those of Judah returning to the Land when the exile into Babylon was ended and Cyrus gave permission for the Jews to return. Clearly God had done a great thing for them, orchestrating a means for their return. And what a promise for followers of the true God to have that when we sow in tears we will reap with songs of joy. What a light that can shine into the darkness and give us hope for a brighter tomorrow.

  2. 3The Lord has done great things for us;
    we are glad.
    4Restore our fortunes, O Lord,
    like streams in the Negeb!
    5 Those who sow in tears
    shall reap with shouts of joy!
    6He who goes out weeping,
    bearing the seed for sowing,
    shall come home with shouts of joy,
    bringing his sheaves with him.
