  1. 13 To answer before listening—
    that is folly and shame.
This was the verse that grabbed me today probably because this world has become so fast and we want things so immediate that in our rush and hurry we forget to stop and listen to one another. We don’t have to agree, we don’t even have to like someone but we need to respect and show grace enough to listen. It doesn’t mean it changes our minds but it should soften our heart to the person. Most fights happen over miscommunication. We cannot understand each other if we don’t take the time to hear where someone is coming, how they percieved things, or what they think happened. There are always 3 sides to every story…yours, mine, and what actually happened! It’s important to listen!

  2. How powerful words are. They can build people up or tear them down. They can speak truth or lies, wisdom or folly. How important it is for us to guard and inform our hearts so the thoughts and words coming from us are what God desires. We will then be able to resolve conflict, understand more than desiring to be understood and benefit those around us. And thereby be in a better place ourselves.

  3. Our words are a window into our hearts. One who is quick to quarrel, judge others harshly, air their opinion, gossip about others and answer without listening is an uncaring person who cannot be trusted.

  4. Vs 2. Met enough people in my lifetime who care little about what others are saying. They’re not listening. Only concern is their opinion. As this chapter ends. Those people are not friends. One good friend so much better than 100,s of superficial so called friends

  5. Full of wisdom. I feel like one could continually read through Proverbs and increasing one’s discernment, wisdom AND self-examination and conviction simultaneously!
