Proverbs 10 (NIV)
Proverbs of Solomon
1 The proverbs of Solomon:
A wise son brings joy to his father,
but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.
2 Ill-gotten treasures have no lasting value,
Proverbs 10
Proverbs 10
In summary, this passage describes a few consequences of being poor, rich and righteous. The first two both have bad consequences. I realized that in this life, it is wise to aspire to be righteous rather than rich or poor.
A great reminder that when we follow the ways of God the benefit it can bring and when we stray away from His paths the trouble that will follow!
Proverbs 8-10
The benefits of wisdom and righteousness are emphasized in this chapter and it is interesting to consider their connection because the wise will be righteous and the righteous show themselves to be wise. The righteous take their direction from God who is the source of wisdom and we can only be wise if we follow God’s counsel which will lead to righteousness. And both find blessings in life that come by the consequences that flow from them as well as from the hand of God. Both are emphasized in this chapter as well as the negative consequences that will come from unrighteous behavior. So much good and practical counsel are found in the Proverbs!
The wise and the righteous are blessed and endure, the wicked are punished.
11The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life,
but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
