A wise son brings joy to his father,
but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.

  1. The ways of righteousness and wickedness are compared here and the strong conclusion is the former is better than the latter. The righteous bring benefit to themselves and to others. They are stable in their ways and benefit others with their words. The Lord blesses them and that makes all the difference. Whereas the wicked are consumed by their wickedness and bring destruction on themselves and no benefit to others. Their ways will come to an end but the way of the righteous will continue to bear good fruit. May we all see the benefit of righteousness laid out here and recognize, in many ways, it is it’s own reward….

  2. These words should be written for all graduates this time of year to see. Lazy hands make a man poor. But diligent hands bring wealth. Other words that we need today. He who heeds discipline shows the way to life. But whoever ignores correction leads others astray. What wisdom in these words and what a world if they were carried out!!

  3. The benefits of being right with God far outweighs the results of not being so. Among these are: joy, salvation, riches that last forever, a crown of blessing, security, wisdom, knowledge, life, and the desires of your heart. It’s an easy decision, I choose righteousness…

  4. Sometimes you read Proverbs and it seems like such common sense. I am struck by how far we have fallen short of these perfect, simple rules to live by. Work hard, be kind, do good, and take correction when needed. The reason this world struggles with these is because they are evidence of a life lived in humility. This world wants us to act as if “you” are the center of everything, well if “you” are the center of everything than everyone feels like they are more important than everyone else. Then we stop listening to each other, helping each other, and feel offended when someone has the audacity to tell us we are doing something wrong. Living in humility goes against the grain of everything this world encourages and it is something we need to, I need to, address in our heart and mind each day and in each situation to fight the urge to put ourself first and actually just do what’s right even if it is not in our own best interest.
