Reading along with us in Micah? Here’s today’s reading:
Micah 2 (NIV)
Human Plans and God’s Plans
1 Woe to those who plan iniquity,
to those who plot evil on their beds!
At morning’s light they carry it out
because it is in their power to do it.
2 They covet fields and seize them,
and houses, and take them.
They defraud people of their homes,
The focus shifts to false prophets and knowing God’s voice instead of being led astray by those who don’t want to see God glorified. The voices that tell us what we want or encourage us to put ourselves first. Again something that we still fall victim to today. God will punish His people but as we see at the end of the chapter He never leaves! His plan is always restoration and He is always waiting for us to come back to Him!
Wow! Powerful stuff here!
2:1-4, I am apt to say amongst friends, “Stealing isn’t worth going to hell over.” And, “God will make it right in the end, if not in this life, then in the next.” Provides a measure of security of mind here on earth, when others perpetrate evil upon me. “Vengeance is mine, I will repay saith the Lord.” Romans 12.
Again, no need to wish pain and tribulation on the wicked; God would rather have them repent. Give your enemy water and food! (Can be hard to practise) Peace, gordy
Micah 2
Micah 2
God is using Micah to pronounce judgement on those that do wrong to the people. They defraud people of their homes, they rob them of their inheritance, and the false prophets are not spokesmen for God. There is a question here from God. [ verse 7c do not my words do good to him that walked uprightly/ But they are walking in their own devices. Where is the fear of God/ God bless you all.
Micah 2
Micah 2
How evil it is for people to take advantage of others, to use their position, power or ability to maneuver around and over the vulnerable and weak. And yet those of God’s people here who have done so, the tables will be turned when a more powerful kingdom comes in and they will receive what they have given. And when this level of evil is happening in Israel and people see and experience it and God sends His prophets to preach against it and warn of the discipline that will come, how evil, ignorant and blind are the false prophets who say, oh, it’s not going to happen like that…everything is fine. Those who justify evil are as bad if not worse than those who perpetrate it.
And yet in spite of that a glimmer of hope….a time when God will bring a remnant together and lead them in the ways that they should go….
They want the prophets to prophesy what they want to hear, but that doesn’t make it true.
Is the Spirit of the Lord restricted?
God will punish the evil doers persecuting their own within Israel.
He will restore the righteous remnant.
God will impose justice on the wicked in due time. He will not allow it to continue; we can be assured of that. Psalms 75:2 God says, “At the time I have planned,I will bring justice against the wicked.” We also can be sure that God will restore his people; it is within his character to do so. “I will surely gather all of you, Jacob;I will surely bring together the remnant of Israel.”
God also has a sense of humor! “If a liar and deceiver comes and says, ‘I will prophesy for you plenty of wine and beer,’ that would be just the prophet for this people!”
