The Ordination of Aaron and His Sons
1 The Lord said to Moses, 2“Bring Aaron and his sons, their garments, the anointing oil, the bull for the sin offering, the two rams and the basket containing bread made without yeast, 3 and gather the entire assembly at the entrance to the tent of meeting.” 4Moses did as the Lord commanded him, and the assembly gathered at the entrance to the tent of meeting.……Continue Reading

  1. Another chapter with much, often graphic, detail of how God wants things to be handled. The consecration of the priests was clearly a very important process. I was intrigued by the blood on the ear, thumb, and toe so when I looked up it’s significance a commentary shared that these places were significant because the priests should hear differently because the blood was on their ear, work differently because the blood was on their thumb, and they should walk differently because the blood was on their toe. What a great picture for their lives and our own!

  2. In this chapter 8 we see the anointing of Aaron, his four sons, the Tabernacle and all that is in it. Moses is performing the duties of the High Priest for as yet Aaron had yet to be ordained. Moses anoints the Tabernacle and all that is in it. Three offerings are made. They are the Sin offering, the Burnt offering, and one for Consecration. These are for Aaron and his sons, and the Tabernacle, and everything in it. Moses uses a bull, and two rams. When Aaron and his sons washed it was their hands and feet. Exodus 30:19. Aaron and his sons were to be dressed as priests with Aaron as the High Priest. Great detail is given in Exodus 28-30. They were to eat of the ram of consecration with the bread and the rest to burn with fire. They were also to stay inside the Tabernacle of the congregation for seven days to be fully consecrated. Or else they would die. Don`t mess with this Holy God. They were to represent Him to the people and He doesn`t take sin lightly. May we always look to Him our Holy God but also our Redeemer. Thank God also for His love and mercy.

  3. Reading about Aaron and his sons as priests reminded me of the passage in 1Peter 2:5. [ Ye also as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up a spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.] We as true believers are priests before God representing Him on this world. Telling people how to be redeemed by the blood of Christ, Showing His holiness, love, and mercy , and grace.

  4. Before the priests could represent the people before God, they had to be made right. What an honor it must have been for them to have these roles and what a sight it must have been in the priestly garments they wore. It’s all to show the importance of this role of conducting the sacrifices for the people and standing before God on their behalf. How amazing to think that through Jesus and His sacrifice, we have direct access to the Father. Priceless!!!
