I wonder why a woman is doubly unclean when giving birth to a girl vs. a boy.
After listening to Pastor this morning, I was ashamed that I was “too busy” to take time for daily Bible readings. I have read this verse before. But I googled why this ritual cleansing was needed. Gods word was very explicit as to what and how long mothers had to how long per sex to wait before her cleansing in water. I still don’t quite understand but that was God’s command. I am still a novice in reading the word but I follow His words and commands. His will be done.

I wondered the same as Meg; why is there a difference in time of unclean due to the sex of the child?

I was trying to do some research to figure out why the purification time for girls is longer than for boys and I didn’t find one that made sense to me Biblically or logically. The purification time does make sense because, there is blood after childbirth that continues for a bit, so it would make sense that you would be “ceremonially unclean”. And this would also allow the woman to convalesce a bit…not having to go and make sacrifices and participate at that time. Maybe longer for girls is a good thing 🤣

I read a conversation that mentioned that the purification for a male is only 7 days allowing the mother to participate in his circumcision ritual on day 8. Then she resumes her purification, for basically a month.
Leviticus 12 Purification and Atonement
How important it is to take God at His word even when we don’t understand why. When the Bible doesn’t expressly give a reason for what God commands, then most things become conjecture, mostly reflecting our perception of things rather than God’s. In fact, the majority of times God speaks, it just lays out truth without explaining why. Now many of those truths we accept because we see the implications of disobedience. But when we can’t see negative implications, we must trust that God knows what He is talking about and always has our best in mind. The biggest lesson here is the special regard He wanted the Jews to have for blood. It was the means of purification in one context and the reason for the need for purification in another. But in all it was to be regarded as special, the life was in the blood, and it was to be a sanctified item when used in sacrifice, but when outside that context it was to be avoided to heighten its uniqueness. I’d like to say that the mother’s connection to her daughter was more significant in the influence she would have on her, and that is the reason it is longer. But that might seem good in sentiment, but we really can’t say.
As I was thinking more about this, maybe what is most important in the longer time is God making a distinction between a boy and a girl to show at the beginning that they are to be regarded as different…
