  1. Get ready. Be ready. We do all sorts of preparations when we know we have a date or appointment in the future. They’re all meaningless compared to when this lifetime ends. Do you have the oil of God? Have you been superficial or using talents? Do we live for ourselves or for others? Furthering the kingdom of God? Pray, I can say, Father I have brought you glory here on earth by the talents given unto me.

  2. There was a time in my life that I certainly didn’t have enough oil in my lamp. I give great thanks to God that the Son of Man did not come at that time. It’s very sobering to hear the bridegroom say, “I don’t even know you”. What a scary thought being in that position when He comes again. We have been warned.

  3. We must all be ready for His coming. As believers are we living the way that He wants us to live or are we living for ourselves? God greatly desires for us to have fellowship with Him. He wants us to talk to Him, read His word, and share the gospel to others so they might also know Him and have eternal life. We are doing this with our family. Please pray for us and our family as we help and guide our daughter and her two children. Always asking for God`s wisdom in everything. Especially the next two weeks. As always God keeps giving us answers to prayer. Seek and serve Him.

  4. God wants us to be ready and live our lives like today is the day Jesus will return. So much preparation goes into anything of significance in our lives, like planning a party or wedding or the preparation we put into career paths and our families. This should all pale in comparison to the preparation we put into for Jesus’ return and this reading confirms the importance God puts on it as well.

  5. I was thinking of the contradiction of watching for signs and yet the suddenness of Christs return. This is from the website enduring word:
“William Barclay describes one aspect of the difficulty here: “It is in two sections and they seem to contradict each other. The first (verses 32-35) seem to indicate that, as a man can tell by the signs of nature when summer is on the way, so he can tell by the signs of the world when the Second Coming is on the way… The second section (verses 36-41) says quite definitely that no one knows the time of the Second Coming, not the angels, not even Jesus himself, but only God; and that it will come upon men with the suddenness of a rainstorm out of a blue sky.”

iii. The dilemma is resolved by seeing that there are actually two second comings. One is in the air, for the church – commonly known as the rapture. The other is to the world, coming with the church, commonly known as the Second Coming of Jesus. The “contradictions” in Matthew 24 (and much of the rest of prophecy) are often solved by seeing there are really references to “two” returns of Jesus. “
