Reading along with us in Joshua? Here’s today’s reading:
Joshua 19 (NIV)
Allotment for Simeon
1 The second lot came out for the tribe of Simeon according to its clans. Their inheritance lay within the territory of Judah. 2 It included:
Beersheba (or Sheba) Moladah, 3 Hazar Shual, Balah, Ezem, 4 Eltolad, Bethul, Hormah, 5 Ziklag, Beth Markaboth, Hazar Susah, 6 Beth Lebaoth and Sharuhen—thirteen towns and their villages;........Continue Reading
I am aware of its significance to the Israelites and to affirm to us God’s promises are always kept but I am glad the dividing of land and inheritance chapters are complete :))
Well said Kelly! It was interesting to see the number of tribes that needed to be nudged along, and it appears they were the smaller ones. So there could be a lesson here to not let what we think to be little keep us from doing what God calls us to, because a little with the power of God is a lot!
Joshua 19
What Kelly said 🙂
Figured I would jump ahead since we discussed chapters 19, 20 and 21 in our Tuesday night women’s study.
We talked about some notable place names and tribe names that we see in prophesy in the new testament like Anna from the tribe of Asher, and Naphtali in Jesus’s birth.
Also, Joshua gets the land that he wanted, but he is so humble that he takes what is left. Even so “Timnath Serah” means: abundant provision
49When they had finished dividing the land into its allotted portions, the Israelites gave Joshua son of Nun an inheritance among them, 50as the Lord had commanded. They gave him the town he asked for—Timnath Serah in the hill country of Ephraim. And he built up the town and settled there.
51These are the territories that Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun and the heads of the tribal clans of Israel assigned by lot at Shiloh in the presence of the Lord at the entrance to the tent of meeting. And so they finished dividing the land.
