Reading along with us in Joshua and 2 Timothy? Here’s today’s reading:

Joshua 17 (NIV)

1 This was the allotment for the tribe of Manasseh as Joseph’s firstborn, that is, for Makir, Manasseh’s firstborn. Makir was the ancestor of the Gileadites, who had received Gilead and Bashan because the Makirites were great soldiers. 2 So this allotment was for the rest of the people of Manasseh—the clans of Abiezer, Helek, Asriel, Shechem, Hepher and Shemida……Continue Reading

  1. Land distributuion continues and the tribe of Joseph complains about the amount of land given but really it seemed they were complaining about the amount of work it would take to occupy and clear it. Often God gives us things but it still takes us doing some work. We must remember that God always has a plan and a purpose and we are blessed to work with Him.

  2. ”And Joshua spoke to the house of Joseph—to Ephraim and Manasseh—saying, “You are a great people and have great power; you shall not have only one lot, but the mountain country shall be yours. Although it is wooded, you shall cut it down, and its farthest extent shall be yours; for you shall drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots and are strong.”“
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭17‬:‭17‬-‭18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Joshua retorts the complaint of Ephraim and Manasseh telling them, you will have more land and you CAN take it!

  3. I just love the picture this chapter gives us for how God’s economy often works. So much of what we receive from God is by grace and what He provides directly. But then there are other aspects of the Christian life, the way the Bible talks about what we should be/have, and we say, well I want that too. And God says, good, I want that for you too, you just have to put the work in to make it happen. He will certainly be there with us and empower us for all that we gain, but it may just take a bit more faith and will for us to overcome the things we need to. And I too like Joshua’s words to Mannessah, hey if you’re so big and need so much land, then go take it. Ah, how much do we not have or don’t attain in our lives because we just don’t want or believe that we can overcome!

And glad that the Bible reports that the promise to Z’s daughters was followed through on.
