It is important to note that the tent of meeting is in Shiloh at this point. It has been traveling through the desert but now has a permanent location. It is interesting to consider how it is regarded by Israel through Judges and 1+2 Samuel, where it will be actually taken by the Philistines. Other than that the chapter shows Joshua’s interest in getting the land divided after he has lead them in battle as best as he could, leaving the rest for tribes to take on for themselves. They will have many problems in the future of the nation because they did not completely drive out the Canaanites as God had directed and certainly would have enabled if they only believed and followed. Who else does that sound like?
