Reading along with us in Joshua and 2 Timothy? Here’s today’s reading:

Joshua 14 (NIV)

Division of the Land West of the Jordan
1 Now these are the areas the Israelites received as an inheritance in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun and the heads of the tribal clans of Israel allotted to them. 2 Their inheritances were assigned by lot to the nine-and-a-half tribes, as the Lord had commanded through Moses.……Continue Reading

  1. Caleb was a man who trusted God’s word, and who believed in God’s promise and He and Joshua were the only two faithful spies when they first got to Canaan. He trusted what God said then and he still trusted Him now so he made a bold request for land. Joshua recognized Caleb’s place and position as a result and granted this request. A reminder that when we are faithful we will be rewarded even if we have to wait many many years. God’s timing is always perfect.

  2. Caleb lived his long life wholeheartedly with his faith and trust in God’s promises right into old age. In so doing, years later it brought him to his inheritance.
We must remember that we are never too old to do for God and to never choose to retire to a weaker faith. We are to be as convicted and ambitious as Caleb was right up to our last breath. We too shall receive our inheritance.
Realizing my older age now, I can appreciate what this chapter has to say. Probably more so than having read it in my younger years. It is so much more relatable.

  3. May we all be like Caleb, faithful to believe God even when others don’t, remaining strong to the end, continuing to overcome and defeat enemies and be what God desires for us to be. And we will receive our reward.

  4. ”Nevertheless my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I wholly followed the Lord my God. So Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land where your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance and your children’s forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.’“
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭14‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Caleb is given the land as Moses said. It is interesting that there are still Anakim there. The same giants that struck fear in the others when they spied out the land.
