Joshua 14 (NIV)

Division of the Land West of the Jordan
1 Now these are the areas the Israelites received as an inheritance in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun and the heads of the tribal clans of Israel allotted to them. 2 Their inheritances were assigned by lot to the nine-and-a-half tribes, as the Lord had commanded through Moses......Continue Reading

  1. God blessed Caleb. Caleb was 85 and still strong after some 40 years since he was the spy that gave one of the only good reports because he showed faith in God’s plan and promises for Israel. This should be our inspiration that we may grow old but we should stay strong in our faith and what we believe, we should never waiver and God is always faithful to those who believe!

  2. It was Caleb and Joshua that were faithful to bring a good report back to the Israelites and encourage them to rely on God’s power to conquer the land. That same vigor and faith has followed both of them and so as land is being allotted, it is fitting for Caleb to come and ask for what he had been promised by Moses. It is incredible to hear Caleb speak about the strength he continues to have and how he plans to drive the people of the land he was promised. Hebron becomes an important place in the Old Testament. So it is interesting that it is associated here with Caleb. Certainly a person and a place to remember….

  3. I did some research and found that Hebron is where David (who is in the line of Judah as Caleb was) became king over all of Israel. An important place indeed!

  4. 10“Now then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the wilderness. So here I am today, eighty-five years old! 11I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then. 12Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.”
