Reading along with us as we take a quick break in Ezekiel for a few chapters of John? Here’s today’s reading:
John 1 (NIV)
The Word Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.........Continue Reading
Because reading the Old Testament prophets can be a little daunting and dare I say repetitive (remember the prophets spoke certain messages at different times and to different people…and the people of Israel had to hear it again and again), we will break them up with a little bit of Jesus. It never hurts to get more of Him and remember we live under the new covenant and in the church age. And yet Jesus’ life occurred under the old covenant.
What an awesome plan that only God could have thought of and accomplished. A God of spirit, divine, heavenly and unseen, will be revealed in human form. The reality of this being is that He always had been God and was with God from eternity past. And He made everything! And yet the creator would invade creation and reveal to us the glory of God. But wait. He came not only to reveal God but also make a way for us to become children of God. And how could that happen? It is only by believing in Him. How sad that the world He created didn’t understand Him (and they still don’t) and His own people didn’t recognize Him ( and they still don’t). And yet He purposed to be known. He sent a forerunner. One who would attract attention by his ways but only so he could direct attention to Him. He would gather to Himself followers who would testify to others who He was. And He would reveal to them and to many, many people the very nature of His power. The amazing acts that could only be accomplished by God. So everyone would be able to know that He was/is God. But will they be willing to believe? That is the question.
John 1
I love that John was there to make the way Straight for Jesus to come. He was waiting for him to come. I have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law! Can you imagine seeing the Holy Spirit come down from Heaven as a Dove and remain on Jesus! Jesus tells Nathanael You shall see greater things than knowing he was standing under the fig tree.
an honest living. Trying to do the right thing to honor GOD.
There is and has always been so much discussion about the Bible. People’s interpretations, people’s disbeliefs, arguments over it’s accuracy and most important it’s relevancy to us today. So every time I read John 1 I am reminded that He is the Word. The Bible is alive, it is the living words of God Himself! People were captivated to follow Jesus because of how He spoke, what He shared, and how He shared it. They longed for another word as they followed Him from place to place. This is how we should feel toward the Bible. We should have that same desire and longing for it’s Words because they are His….they are HIM! This book is not merely stories and suggestions but our salvation, our roadmap to a better life and an eternity with our Father and Creator!
God let me long to follow these words they way people followed Jesus here on earth eager for the next word to reach their ears.
Thank you Pastor for switching things up by giving us the first three chapters of John. It’s like a breath of fresh air! Jesus is the Word who was with God from the beginning. He is full of grace and truth. Even though we have not seen God, we know God through his Son, Jesus Christ. One of my favorite verses in the Bible is John 1:4-5. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. So grateful that his light is life that cannot be overcome by darkness.
