  1. It very much makes sense that Job would reflect on his past and remember the blessings that were in his life before tragedy struck. And it makes sense that his description of his life is more accurate than what he has been accused of. God would not honor him if he wasn’t what he describes here, a well respected and caring person who earned a position of honor because of his godliness, wisdom and generosity. And although he thinks God was with him then and is not with him now, he will be pleasantly surprised in the end. It is a reminder to us when we go through bad times that God is actually closer to us, and not further away. But He is always as close to us as we will allow.

  2. Job 29 Job is remembering the times his life was Blessed, a time when people looked up to him for the wisdom he had. A time when he felt the closeness of God. How easy it is for us to feel the way Job feels when things are bad, and forget that God is always there to see us through that, suffering can be a way to draw us closer to God to totally rely on him.

  3. It is certainly sad to hear of Job’s past and how much he has lost but it is more sad that he feels God has left him. God never leaves us. God is ever present in our trials and in our pain, it is just much harder for us to see and feel Him then. Job sounds like he was a wonderful, caring, and respected man, very different from his friend’s depictions of him, but we are refined by fire so we trust that God will do even greater things with Job through this time of trial.

  4. Job is reminiscing about and longing for all his blessings from the past. He was a man known for his integrity with all those he came upon. He left a mark on many.
However, life can change and now he was feeling that God was not with him as he was previously when times were good.
I guess what we can learn from this passage is that we never know what life has in store for each and every one of us. We need now to be strong in our faith and in our God so that we will be prepared to handle whatever comes our way knowing that God is with us in the good times and the bad times. And, maybe we too, like Job, can leave a mark on others by showing love, faithfulness and integrity. Let these traits and others be our legacy.

  5. A longing for the days when everything was going well for us is common for most of us when we are suffering. But life doesn’t just stay static, it is comprised of peaks, valleys and plateaus. And God is in all of it, teaching us to be strong, to trust him, and to perservere. So we must have faith that he is with us and will work all things out for our good. Keep our eyes on the Lord, our blessed hope, because when we leave this world, we will be with him forever in paradise. Our pain is just a blip in the radar. “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18
