Job 2 (NIV)

1 On another day the angels came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came with them to present himself before him. 2 And the Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?”

  1. Satan is a liar and deceiver. When his first plan fails, he has to up the anti. And God grants the request. And yet Job passes the test and says the wise statement/question would we accept good from God and not trouble? May we respond to hardship in the same way and trust God for what He is doing and why He is doing it. And may we do better than Job’s wife to point people to trust God rather than giving up hope. And his friends start off doing the right thing for Job: sitting in silence and just being present with Job in what he was dealing with.

  2. Even when we can get past the loss of things and even the loss of people in our lives, our own physical suffering can break us. Mental and physical pain tests us and truly tests our faith and trust in God. But Job sails through this test and even when someone he loves so much, his wife, gives him the worst advice ever, he stil finds God in his pain. “Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” What powerful words for us to meditate on, even when we think our faith is strong are we welcoming the trouble with such an open heart as Job.

  3. “Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” It’s so easy to accept God’s blessings but it is so difficult to accept the difficulties and struggles we face. But, as followers of Christ, we know that “in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” And when we can look back and can see how that happens, we are strengthened for the next time we face challenges in our lives.

  4. “But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
