  1. This was a powerful chapter for me for a couple of reasons. First it is such a great reminder of God’s mercy. We are incurable from sin on our own, powerless over it and God knowing that shows us mercy. Correction comes but He is always there through it all and waiting on the other side with his love and compassion. Second is also a great reminder of the hope we have in God. God created us, knows us, and wants relationship with us but knowing how weak we are to sin He sent Jesus to pay the penalty for our sin. God’s thoughts are so much more than ours and His plans for us eternal and while we struggle with our finite mind to understand He knows and He is in control.

  2. As the judgement and discipline that Judah’s sin and rejection of God required comes to pass, God wants them to have a message of hope as they suffer through it. God wants to make sure that Jeremiah writes it down so they are sure to hear the message and can reread to make sure it sticks. Yes they have brought on their pain and suffering, they need not blame anyone else for that. But God will restore them to the land and foster all that is good for His people. It is an important truth about our God, that there is always the opportunity to turn things around, get back on track and have Him participating with us helping the process of restoration along. We will never be perfect, but we are always to pursue the things that God wants and He is one who rewards those who diligently pursue Him.
