Jeremiah 15 (NIV)

1 Then the Lord said to me: “Even if Moses and Samuel were to stand before me, my heart would not go out to this people. Send them away from my presence! Let them go! 2 And if they ask you, ‘Where shall we go?’ tell them, ‘This is what the Lord says:
“ ‘Those destined for death, to death;
those for the sword, to the sword;
those for starvation, to starvation;
those for captivity, to captivity.’.............Continue Reading

  1. This chapter starts with what looks like hopelessness (you have nowhere else to turn now, you will accept my judgment) but ends with hope for Jeremiah.

  2. Sometimes standing with the Lord is painful.
    Yet still we must trust in Him.

    “And I will make you to this people a fortified bronze wall;
    And they will fight against you,
    But they shall not prevail against you;
    For I am with you to save you
    And deliver you,” says the Lord.
    21 “I will deliver you from the hand of the wicked,
    And I will redeem you from the grip of the terrible.”

  3. God’s message through Jeremiah has been very consistent: your disobedience and worship of idols has led to God rejecting them and bringing judgement upon them. This will mean suffering and heartache in every fashion and to all strata of society. And it is hard to be the messenger of God to a people who are suffering reproach….especially when that reproach brings more pride than humility. People have a tendency to project their pain on those they feel are responsible for their pain: especially when you are God’s person and the people are suffering His judgment. But God is always a resource for those who suffer for His name and for His mission. It is comforting that we can come to Him in our trials and find not only a listening ear but a God who can strengthen and protect and provide. He has a plan for us as believers/followers that is distinct from those who are not following and that plan will involve us being supported and sustained. There is great hope in what God can accomplish through us and for us.

  4. It is easy to understand the pain Jeremiah is feeling. This job is not an easy one and watching the pain and destruction of those around you must be very hard. God certainly never promises an easy road but He does always promise to be with us through it all.
