Reading along with us in Jeremiah? Here’s today’s reading:

Jeremiah 1 (NIV)

1 The words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests at Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin. 2 The word of the Lord came to him in the thirteenth year of the reign of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah, 3 and through the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, down to the fifth month of the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah king of Judah, when the people of Jerusalem went into exile.

  1. God is serious about the case of idolatry.. I think about modern nations, specifically America and think how many people are engaging in it.. I don’t know exactly the mind of God but it’s either he will just judge all these things at the very last day or the faith of the believers are holding him back..

  2. What to say about Jeremiah. As a prophet he warned people of the coming wrath of God if they didn’t turn from their wicked ways. Probably was called a bigot. No one listened to Jeremiah but God assured him. Do not be afraid I am with you and will rescue you. 40 years he spent preaching. He ended up in prison. In Egypt. His family and friends turned against him. We read what the great men of the Bible went through. Makes part of me want to go live in a shack in maine

  3. We learned from the book of 2nd Chronicles that Josiah reigned 31 years. So Jeremiah preached and confronted the people for 18 years of those. It shows that even in times of righteousness further reminders and corrections are necessary, but even more so to show how passionate God is to give his people fair warning before he brings judgement upon them. To think that Jeremiah is prophesying these things as Josiah is making his reformations and people are turning back to the Lord. It is a call to remain in that righteousness and be warned of the consequences of falling away. You wonder how many people said that these things could never happen to us. Who does that sound like? Americans? The call of a prophet was a serious one, and yet like Jeremiah we need to get ready for what is coming and remain faithful to what he calls us to be and do.

  4. Jeremiah is called from the womb. It must be assuring to know that God has chosen you for a specific plan and purpose….and yet, very scary. We might think that our path is random, but “it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” God has plans for us….they might be scary, but He is faithful.

Just wanted to mention that I appreciate Jill and Mark and Pastor’s comments! I am reading them.

  5. Amazing to see God has a plan for Jeremiah’s life from the womb. A plan that He will see come to to fruition and protect Jeremiah along the way. Not an easy job being a messenger with unfavorable news but God assures him that He will be with him through it all.
Cool to think of our own lives that way…that if we are being attentive to His plan for us we have so many opportunities to do the work of Christ when we don’t put other things in the way.
