Hosea 9 (NIV)

Punishment for Israel
1 Do not rejoice, Israel;
do not be jubilant like the other nations.
For you have been unfaithful to your God;
you love the wages of a prostitute
at every threshing floor.
2 Threshing floors and winepresses will not feed the people;
the new wine will fail them.
3 They will not remain in the Lord’s land;
Ephraim will return to Egypt
and eat unclean food in Assyria............Continue Reading

  1. This is one of those chapters that reminds us for all the love, grace, and mercy God has for us He is also a God of judgment and wrath when necessary. I know like any parent it does not give Him pleasure when things come to this but we also know that there were so so so so many chances for the Israelites to turn away from their sinful ways and come back to God and they continued to ignore those warnings.

  2. When you think of all that God wanted for Israel and promised them, fruitfulness in all aspects of life, victory over their enemies, other nations coming to and blessing them as opposed to Israel being dependent, healthy bodies and healthy families. And yet Hosea describes the exact opposite will happen to them because they are being disobedient. It is fair to expect that his warnings would be more impactful because the Jews would remember how God had promised to bless them in the opposite way of how He now needs to curse them. And Hosea’s message seems to consistently revolve around these themes…..and yet they still don’t get it. Remember he is also prophesying at the same time as Isaiah, and yet he says it here that the prophet is now considered a fool. One of the worst things we can ever become is unteachable and hard hearted. Then we cannot receive instruction and we remain committed to a wrong course. May we always be open to God’s word and respect those who speak for him.

  3. I was struck by the curse of no children.
    If our children “transition”, our men are effeminate, and the vaccine causes sterility, we will do this to ourselves.
    Despite what they tell us, our nation and our world is underpopulated.

    “As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird—
    No birth, no pregnancy, and no conception!
    Though they bring up their children,
    Yet I will bereave them to the last man.
    Yes, woe to them when I depart from them!
    Just as I saw Ephraim like Tyre, planted in a pleasant place,
    So Ephraim will bring out his children to the murderer.”

    “Give them, O Lord—
    What will You give?
    Give them a miscarrying womb
    And dry breasts!”
    ……
    Their root is dried up;
    They shall bear no fruit.
    Yes, were they to bear children,
    I would kill the darlings of their womb.”
