Galatians 3 (ESV)

O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith— just as Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”?

Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.”So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

10 For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” 11 Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.” 12 But the law is not of faith, rather “The one who does them shall live by them.” 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— 14 so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faithContinue Reading

  1. 28There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

My school has been really passionate about Justice and equality this year, and I really think this verse really explains why we should be just and kind to each other. In Christ we are all the same, we are all being sanctified through him, and He came to die for all of us. We are all one.

  2. God had a plan for the Gentiles all along: ” And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.” Seeing this also in Revelation where the promises to the Jews and the plan for the Gentiles merge.

  3. 2 Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith?

13Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— 14so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.

  4. What a great plan of salvation that flows from the heart of a gracious, loving, wise and merciful God! Knowing that the only way that we could be saved would be by virtue of what He provided and then the only way for us to access that would be by faith, God also knew sin needed to be exposed for what it is in light of the righteous character and standard that comes form God. Therefore He provides the law to do what only it could do, and then provides His son and directs us to faith in Him to accomplish what it only could do. Paul here shows us that to mix the purposes is wrong and misguided. “Did you receive the Spirit by obeying the law or by believing what you heard?” and “You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” So we are placed in right relationship with God and receive the means of personal fellowship with God and power for living all by virtue of what we believe. Awesome!

May we be gripped by the privilege and call that is found in those 2 things…
