Ezekiel 25 (NIV)

A Prophecy Against Ammon
1 The word of the Lord came to me: 2“Son of man, set your face against the Ammonites and prophesy against them. 3 Say to them, ‘Hear the word of the Sovereign Lord. This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because you said “Aha!” over my sanctuary when it was desecrated and over the land of Israel when it was laid waste and over the people of Judah when they went into exile,.........Continue Reading

  1. This chapter focuses on prophecies of judgement on Israel’s/Judah’s neighboring nations for gloating over Judah’s defeat and exile. Three of them are actually Israel’s cousins. Edom came from Jacob’s brother Esau. Ammon and Moab were sons of Lot who was Abraham’s nephew. Philistia was the nation on the western border of Israel and was consistently a thorn in their side (remember David and Goliath?). It Is a shame when enemies come from your own family and yet we are to love them just the same, but that doesn’t mean God won’t deal with them in His way and His time. These nations also should have been the ones most likely to see and know the nature of Israel’s God and not let family squabbles drive their knowledge and what they pursued. And God ends each prophecy of judgement with the a statement that describes His heartbeat behind all His actions….that they will know that He is the Lord. Hopefully everyone around us gets to know that sooner rather than later. Because we will all learn it later….when we stand before His throne.

  2. God’s judgement on the surrounding nations to Judah. These nations had no sympathy for Judah and even gloated of their destruction but in God’s timing and at His design judgement came to all of those nations as well.
Sad to hear reading Pastor’s comment that some of these nations were actually family and still they did not find compassion on Judah.

  3. Thank you Pastor Peter. After reading I went to your comments because I was not totally clear on people and places that were in this chapter. The Lord again says they will know that he is God.

  4. God not only deals with Israel and Judah for their wicked ways, he deals with their neighbors as well so that they all will know that He is God.

  5. God sets out the surrounding nations and tells them how He will act against them, especially in light of their actions against His people, then they will know that He is the Lord.
I noticed that He does NOT tell Edom that they will know He is the Lord….they will know His vengeance.

“I will lay My vengeance on Edom by the hand of My people Israel, that they may do in Edom according to My anger and according to My fury; and they shall know My vengeance,” says the Lord God.”
