Ezekiel 26 (NIV)
A Prophecy Against Tyre
1 In the eleventh month of the twelfth year, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: 2“Son of man, because Tyre has said of Jerusalem, ‘Aha! The gate to the nations is broken, and its doors have swung open to me; now that she lies in ruins I will prosper,’ 3 therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Tyre, and I will bring many nations against you, like the sea casting up its waves.........Continue Reading
Tyre had a specific opportunistic satisfaction in the destruction of Jerusalem. It benefited their trade and economy and so they did not acknowledge God and were driven by money and greed. Very common of people still today that the importance of self and “stuff” before God. Despite Tyre’s reputation for being a strong nation God will bring judgement even to them, a reminder that we are never to strong for God’s judgement. This chapter is just a reminder of being careful of our natural inclination toward pride and greed because it can destroy our relationship with God. We must have a humble spirit and recognize the power of God.
He lets Tyre know what will happen if he goes because he thinks the gates of Jerusalem are open to him. He tells him the terrible things that will happen. They will be a desolate city. The sea will cover you. He tells him what a horrible death he will have and that people will look for him but will not find him .

Ezekiel 26
Because of Tyre’s desire to take advantage of the fall of Jerusalem and continue to operate in pride in regards to her wealth, industry and trade, God pronounces judgement on her. The detail given about this great city being destroyed is amazing and a testimony to the truth and divine inspiration of scripture. No one would have imagined that things would have turned out this way for this great city. And yet it happened just the way God said. It Is a common picture of mankind thinking he is something and has something, just reenforcing his pride, but then God shows that it is nothing in His hands and His will is what matters and what will prevail. And once again all this is done so that they will know that the Lord is God. And He is one who protects and defends His people..even when He Himself is disciplining them.
Reflection on 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
We approach life by walking in the light, not in hidden sins, lies or deception. Rather, we fellowship with the Lord and the people who know Him. As we walk with faith and trust in Jesus, the grace of God is given as a gift to cleanse us from all sin.
Ezekiel 26
Tyre will become bare rock.
“I will make you like the top of a rock; you shall be a place for spreading nets, and you shall never be rebuilt, for I the Lord have spoken,’ says the Lord God.”
